step by step guidance
new mental models
Many leaders who need to get knowledge-work done are extremely frustrated with their situation. If you answer just one of these questions with a "yes", attending a Kanban Bootcamp might be just what you need to move forward again.
It is clear that much about what we know about getting work done is hopelessly outdated.
Instead, we need to learn modern, more effective ways to reliably deliver in an increasingly uncertain business environment.
Kanban seems like the magic bullet, but almost as soon as you start you will encounter resistance as "this is not how we do things around here", a.k.a organizational inertia.
Truth be told, a management system that has evolved over so many decades will not go without a fight.
To have any chance of success, you need to:
The Kanban Bootcamp has been designed with these outcomes in mind and in just 8 weeks you will have a working system that others notice.
The past 8 weeks have been a journey for us from "... not really convinced that Kanban will be better than what we already have... " to fully embracing this new methodology and even starting to discuss how we can convince other departments to follow us.
RUSSEL GREFEN, Engineering Manager at Aerosud, RSA
Kanban is much more than visualising work! Once you truly understand the breadth and depth of Kanban you'll see many new opportunities to improve flow.
With a clear picture of how work should get done, you'll appreciate our suggestions and ideas for how you can kick-start and accelerate the journey with your team(s).
Discard 20th century management thinking and start seeing all knowledge work as a flow from "customer need" to "needs met". Work will never be the same.
The Kanban Bootcamp is revolutionary because it combines online training, real-life implementations, peer-learning and continuous improvement over an 8 week period to leave you with a fully-functioning Kanban system.
In contrast to other training organisations even more value awaits you after the Kanban Bootcamp when we continue to support your personal growth journey through the free eXuviate Network and by offering Mastermind peer-coaching and private Business Agility Coaching services.
Our promise to you is simple: We are there, every step of the way, as you reimagine how work gets done.
Like you, we also see ourselves as agents of change and have always had a knack for seeing the world different than others around us.
Unfortunately, however, it was even more fashionable to cling to outdated management thinking than it is today. In fact, if we had known 5 years ago what we now know, we would have never sold our stake in Space Age Technologies, an IT services business we (Mathias and Mark, the co-founders of Xuviate) founded 26 years ago and which we helped grow into a highly respected, 70 person organisation.
Towards the end, we were drowning our business in change requests, projects and new product developments, similar to what happens today in most businesses. Not happy with this state of affairs, we decided to clear the deck, sell our stake, and dedicate Xuviate, our next business, to solving this problem.
The big break-through, however, only came when we started applying Kanban to different parts of client businesses and noticed how well work started to flow. Finally we had found a repeatable process that could help us drive true business agility … but even after this realisation, it took us lots of additional research, experimentation and many 100s of coaching sessions with business leaders to gain enough confidence to offer this as a standard service.
The benefit to you is that you don't have to repeat our journey of trial and error and can instead directly leverage off of our experiences. In fact, we on purpose decided not to offer consulting services (which create dependencies for clients), but instead developed an end-to-end Kanban support offering to more effectively transfer knowledge and ensure ownership for the business agility journey stays with our clients.
About a year ago we moved our head-office from South Africa to Germany to better service our many international clients.
We don't care much about being seen as thought leaders ourselves and are very keen to partner with the top Kanban, Lean and Agile minds in the industry to rather fuse different approaches and complementary thinking into something practical and useful for our clients. Our 85 eXpander interviews, 65 Business Agility Daily episodes and close partnership with Kanbanize are good examples of the all-round benefits this approach has....
One of the most significant shortcomings of conventional Kanban trainings is that you still have to figure out how to implement what you have learned using your own Kanban software.
Even worse, not every Kanban tool is equally powerful and sometimes even standard Kanban practices can only be implemented using workarounds.
This is why we have partnered deeply with Kanbanize and standardised on their tool for all visualisations and demonstrations during the Bootcamp.
If your organisation doesn't yet have a Kanbanize license, we can provide you with a free, fully functioning 3-month trial so that you can easily follow along with everything we do.
Check the Bootcamp dates and secure your attendance as early as possible. Seats are limited and prices increase over time.
Come to each of the 8 sessions to learn new theory, share progress and insights and hear answers to the most common questions.
After each session, share your insights with your team(s) at work and together do the homework assignment. This is where the real learning happens.
In recent years I've taken many crash courses to keep up with developments in several fields, but I feel particularly proud about completing the Xuviate Kanban Bootcamp. When enrolling I had no idea how deep and wide we would be going. The wealth of knowledge shared was outstanding and the 8-week format an excellent choice, contributing to the better understanding of the concepts. I am very grateful to our excellent instructors Mathias Tölken and Mark Geschke for this course. I am also very grateful to my team of classmates, particularly those who put themselves in the weekly hotseat, helping us all uncover more about implementing Kanban in various real business settings.
Alexander Deliyannis, Partner at Sympraxis Team, Greece
Every Bootcamp has 8 online sessions, delivered at the same time every week. Each session is 2 hours long and is made up of the following 3 sections:
We will do a deep dive on a specific topic every week to help you establish a sound Kanban foundation. In addition to other homework, we will each week ask you to prepare for the next session by going through some training videos and exercises. It is essential that you do this.
Each session we will subdivide into smaller groups to work through a given assignment, share progress or talk about outcomes and challenges. The idea is to reinforce theory and learn from each other. Groups will stay together for the duration of the Bootcamp.
Questions & Answers
We dedicate time to answer as many questions as possible about Kanban and practical implementation challenges everyone faces. We use a Lean-Coffee format to encourage broad participation and focus on what is most relevant to the majority of participants.
In each session we will cover exactly one learning module, for which you need to prepare beforehand by watching some training videos.
The 8 learning modules follow on each other. Should you miss a session, you need to catch up as soon as possible as sessions build on each other.
After each session you should go back to your team(s) and do the homework, which can take anywhere between 4 and 8 hours.
After a short welcome and introductions we immediately jump in to get a better understanding of the Kanban basics. We'll also talk about the importance of fully engaging your team(s) and diligently doing the homework.
You will learn how to build your first basic Kanban board. The highlight is when we show you how easy it is to get productive in Kanbanize. Part of your homework will be to get a Daily Kanban meeting going with your team.
We all know that multi-tasking is a productivity killer, yet almost everybody struggles with the concept of limiting work in progress in a business context. Understand why this happens and how Kanban helps you solve it.
Continuous improvement is baked deeply into the Kanban method, but to get it started you first need to understand how to measure improvements. Fortunately Kanban metrics are both simple and extremely powerful.
Teams are so tuned to gettting their work done that few have developed the skill to reflect on their work and get better over time. Learn about Kanban cadences and what you need to do to get your team on a path of continuous improvement.
Love them or hate them: projects are how organisations currently drive (lots of) change. Learn the basics of managing projects the Kanban way and stand a chance to dramatically accelerate throughput and results.
The ultimate goal of any Kanban journey is to build an adaptive organisation built for survival. Learn about the critical role that leadership plays and understand how the Kanban Maturity Model (KMM) can support your journey.
In the final session you will have a chance to reflect and brag about your successes. We celebrate way too litle in traditional businesses and we find it quite fitting to conclude by practicing this vital skill.
We will invite you to a private Kanban Bootcamp Workspace on the eXuviate Community to facilitate communication and to
P.S. Not yet a member of eXuviate? Then join now, it is free (if you qualify).
This Bootcamp workspace will remain available for 6 months after the conclusion of the Bootcamp.
The leaning modules were brilliant. I was seriously surprised to learn just how much value Kanban can bring to an organisation.
Business Analyst at Fruitways
During the Bootcamp I got a clear idea of how to improve our Kanban system step-by-step, I understood where we are in the KMM and also gained a completely new perspective on how to drive continuous improvement.
Scrum Master at Roche Polska
Breakout sessions and the Lean Coffee were quite impressive and just listening to the discussions was enlightening in many cases.
Engineering Manager at BASF SE
Are you concerned about team productivity in our uncertain times? What would you gain by slashing your project delivery time by at least half? How much more work could you get done if everybody could just focus for once? Are you again struggling to replace a key resouce who just left?
Failing to implement Kanban properly may already be costing your business a great deal in lost opportunities.

I was surprised by how many new insights I gained even though I have been involved with Kanban for quite some time.
Group IT Leader at Aerosud
The entire bootcamp was an ‘a-ha’ moment for me, as I have identified that we should continuously re-evaluate what we have learned and used in the past, to ultimately unlearn the outdated methods and learn new methods to keep moving forward.
Rusaan van Staden
Talent at GWK Limited
Awesome job. I like your teaching style and I like the community-building approach of the Bootcamp.
Director of Engineering at Instana GmbH
Realistically, you should reserve a minimum of 2h every week for the scheduled sessions, one hour for watching the training videos and an additional 4-8 hours for homework and working with your team. This brings your total time investment to between 7 and 11 hours per week.
This may sound like a lot … but only until you remind yourself of how much more time and effort you would have had to spend if you wanted to do this on your own.
We know that there are many Kanban tools and options available.
Unfortunately we cannot cater for every need and, since Kanbanize is considered one of the leading Kanban tools available, it just makes sense for us to focus on the tool we love and ensure we get maximum value for everybody.
Also, the real value of Kanban, in our opinion, is realised when multiple team boards are brought together at a higher level for cross-team coordination. Kanbanize absolutely shines in this.
Not necessarily, but you do need to be in a position where you can actively influence the implementation of Kanban in one or more teams.
Business leaders have this authority by default.
If you are not a leader, you should at least consider yourself to be an "agent of change". If you are continuously looking for ways to do things better you may in fact be the ideal person to attend a Kanban Bootcamp.
Absolutely! The more people at your business who understand the Kanban basics, the higher your chances are for leading your organisation on a successful Kanban journey.
Just keep in mind that, at a minimum, your colleagues need to understand that they will have to actively engage with the material, submit their own homework and be able to have a discussion about the work done during the "Sharing & Deep-Dive" group-work sections.
Of course, your team will love you and your fellow leaders will ask for your assistance with their Kanban implementations
But this is probably not what you were asking.
Yes, if you fully attend all sessions and do all the homework assignments you will get a Xuviate Kanban Bootcamp Certificate of Completion.
P.S. Completing this Bootcamp will not give you a certification recognised by Kanban University, the de-facto leader in awarding recognised Kanban credentials. If you are more interested in adding another training to your CV than to get supported during an actual Kanban implementation, we would recommend you rather consider doing the excellent classroom-based KMP training.
You don't have to, but you might get a lot of value from attending!
While the material itself is heavily aligned with the KMP I, and to an extent even the KMP II official training, our focus is less on the theory itself and much more on its real-world, practical application.
So, if you feel you have enough practice applying the theory, then you will probable be better served by enquiring about our Mastermind and Private Coaching services (click here to book a free chat with us).
If, on the other hand, the theory is already a bit vague or you lack practical implementation experience, then the Bootcamp will serve the dual purpose of not only refreshing this knowledge but giving you an opportunity to learn by doing. Which, of course, is invaluable!
This could be a problem as we really want you to participate in full and ideally also share your team's progress and challenges with all Bootcamp participants.
In our experience, confidentiality is usually not a major challenge as there should be very little that should be confidential about the actual process of implementing Kanban in your team.
As long as you make sure that your Kanban work items are non-descriptive or obfuscated, you should even be able to share a screenshot of your Kanban board setup.
In the end it doesn`t really matter from which business function you are because the Kanban principles and practices stay the same.
Having said this, most leaders we work with come from more back-end business functions such as IT, Engineering, Project Management, Portfolio Management, Marketing, HR, Sales and Finance as opposed to more customer-facing business units.
Apart from the fact that customer-facing business units often still don't know how much they could benefit from using Kanban, they often deal with a lot more uncertainty.
To deal with this uncertainty, tools such as Lean Startup and Design Thinking have been developed but unfortunately we do not have enough time to include them in the Bootcamps.
Due to our international audience our next Bootcamp will again be delivered exclusively in English. We will gauge the interest for a parallel, German-only offering and could have something up and running soon since both, Mathias and Mark, our main facilitators, are native German-speakers.
Our next kick-off is on 22 October at 14h00 CET (Central European Time). The 8 formal sessions happen every Thursday, same time, until 10 December.
